Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt Ambassador Christian Berger visited Al Bazar Exhibition for Handicrafts and Home Decoration organized by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), under the auspices of H.E. Abdel Fattah El Sisi President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Exhibition takes place from March 11 – 20 at MSMEDA’s Hall inside the Exhibition’s Ground in Nasr City, Cairo.
H.E. the Ambassador was accompanied by MSMEDA Deputy Executive Director Eng. Tarek Shash together with, Head of Human and Community Development Central Sector Eng. Medhat Massoud, Head of Non-Service Sector Central Sector Dr. Rafaat Abbas, and Head of the Micro Enterprise Central Sector Ms. Nevine Badr El Din.
Engineer Shash said this visit comes in line with the close and long-standing cooperation binding MSMEDA with the EU – one of the major international entities that supports MSMEDA activities. “MSMEDA is implementing the Agreement of Addressing the Root Causes of Irregular Migration through Employability and Labor-Intensive Works (ELIW) in 11 governorates of Egypt. This Agreement is funded by the EU in the amount of twenty-seven Euros,” Eng. Shash added.
H.E. Ambassador Berger visited the different booths of the Exhibition to get acquainted with the heritage-based products. “Glad to be right here at this Exhibition and see small entrepreneurs and artisans growing and marketing their businesses. This actually reflects our cooperation with MSMEDA,” Ambassador Berger said. During his tour of the Exhibition, H.E. the Ambassador also visited the booth of the Business Development Unit that provides technical services for start-ups.
Meanwhile Eng. Massoud ascertained that the EU comes atop of MSMEDA strategic partners specifically with regard to human and community development. “Community development projects MSMEDA carries out jointly with donor agencies help create the environment favorable to the establishment and development of micro and small enterprises for youth and contribute to improving the quality of life for the targeted populations,” he reiterated.
“MSMEDA has initiated to establish the Business Development Unit within Al Bazar Exhibition to channel a bundle of technical services for exhibitors and business start-ups namely, professional photographing for products, design of promotional items and websites alongside business development services. MSMEDA implements this Unit in cooperation with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and International Labor Organization (ILO),” Dr. Abbas said.
